Here's Jascha Heifitz playing the same piece.
Milo is not rehabilitated. We had decided that since he no longer poops on the downstairs bathroom floor, he would no longer do it in either that sink or the big tub upstairs. Wrong - he's now done both and we've gone back to water in the sink and closed bathroom door upstairs. Drat and damn. Now I've got the water out of the sink, am grading [groan!] and trying to keep an eye on the bathroom so that if he heads in there I can catch him before he does the dirty deed and put him in the litter box - it seemed to work for the floor, so ???
I talked to one of my daughters in Salt Lake City earlier. She has discovered Nordstrom's Rack [ her budget might not survive it]. She and a friend were shopping for a Halloween party costume for her friend, and she wound up finding one for herself. She's going as Ace Frehley - I would give my eyeteeth to see her in it. When we were just getting ready to come back from Australia in 1980, Kiss was giving a concert in Melbourne. She was crazy about them and I was able to get, believe it or not, tickets for the concert plus bus fare for the 200 or so miles for $25 each! I had never been to a rock concert and we had a ball. The only problem was that I had to spend the whole time holding onto her to keep her from climbing up on the stage. Fun.
I never had any popular music heroes - the closest I came to that sort of feeling was a crush on Nathan Milstein, who played the Beethoven Violin Concerto with a community symphony orchestra that I played with when I was a senior in high school. i thought he was amazing - and he had those brooding, Russion-Jewish good looks.
Maybe more later.
I'm going out to dinner, having spent the day at the Zoo. Sad news, my co-day captain, Pat, who has ALS is having to resign from the Zoo. It's gotten that we can almost not understand her, she's lost a lot of weight and needs to take care of herself - so no more Zoo. I will miss her.
I spent 5 afternoons after school at doctors' offices this past week. I scheduled, re-scheduled, then postponed surgery for carpal tunnel syndrome; was told that I have a slight disc hemorrhage in my right eye, which my optometrist thought was probably due to my blood sugar being too high at some point, but my cardiologist disagreed, sent me to a retinal specialist, who decided it wasn't bad enuf to worry about and, instead, saw hypertensive changes in both my eyes. Now to see if I hear back from my cardiologist when he gets the report. So I've decided that, in addition to starting to exercise regularly, I will ask my rheumatologist [my first appointment this week] for a referral to a physical therapist for my wrists, knees and shoulders, which have started hurting again. Sounds like I'm falling apart - but none of it is all that bad, and a positive approach will definitely help. So there!
I have started, re-started and started again an article for Andrew's Miscellany, and each time it's entirely different, too long, and not what I want. Guess I'll just have to keep trying. Or, maybe, do something completely different.
TTFN.
Oh - and as of yesterday we re-claimed the downstairs bathroom sink - so far so good. And the video was found by friend N who generously allowed me to post it - I hope you enjoy it.
In case you need a pick-me-up check out this website [note that there are several pages]. My cousin Donna sent it in an email.
I volunteer at our local Zoo. The woman who was my immediate supervisor - a paid employee of the Zoological Society of Florida [ZSF] "resigned" a couple of weeks ago. This shouldn't have happened and has made quite a few of us volunteers unhappy. One very interesting point is that she was somewhat of an exception in the ZSF - she made us feel welcome and that our services were appreciated. Some of the other ZSF employees have seemed to look down on us. They don't seem to realize that we are not being paid, are not doing it for the "glory" but have found a service we can perform that we enjoy doing. There have been, seemingly, more and more rules and rigidity. The Zoo employees, including the Keepers, on the other hand, are very appreciative of what we do. Now I am waiting and thinking about maybe it's time I found somewhere else to donate my time and energy.
On another note, I miss my daughters. We talk at least once a week, but Salt Lake City is seeming further and further away. Moving is such a chore, though, and I would pretty much want to sell or give away much of my burdensome possessions. This will take a lot of doing - so guess I had better get started.
I would have put this video on here, but guess that's not allowed, so here is the website, on my Local 10 News Channel. It sounded worse when described by the newscasters - which is all I heard at first. But it seems really tragic that 2 young girls aren't allowed to hold hands. Not on this video, I heard, tho' it may be false, that the one girl is an honor student and was stripped of her privileges as that, and, maybe the girls were suspended? I sure hope that's wrong.
BTW so far so good. Since I put Milo into the litter box the other day, he seems to be using it! I'm still holding my breath, but wouldn't it be nice if I weren't blogging about poop anymore?
Other good news, my Trigonometry classes did very well [1 class] and amazingly well [2nd class]. Similar tests - but required slightly different info, for the most part. I only wish my Calculus II classes had done as well. Now they get to make corrections for a bit of extra credit, which will help.
