OK - I've gotten through the week of teaching 4 courses - 10 class meetings - with more or less flying colors. I'm still having Physical Therapy - icing and having the scars massaged, stretching some areas of my hands that are stiff, and also doing some strengthening stuff for my knees [I'm still managing to avoid replacement and therapy will, I believe, help that effort.] Now to grade the 2 tests I gave Wednesday and write the 2 that have to be given Tuesday. Sunday I'm day captain at the Zoo. Very sad news there - the lovely lady who was my co-day captain, who had ALS which has caused her health to deteriorate over the last year, drastically so in the past few months, finally succombed to it. She died last week. Pat and I really only knew each other since we became day captains about 2 years ago and she will be sorely missed. . We worked well together as a team. For the time being, other day captains are filling in, but eventually a new one will have to be found.
Next week is the last week of regular classes before final exams. I gave 2 tests Wednesday which I have to grade, then Tuesday I have to give 2 more tests [so far unwritten] and then, of course, there are the final exams - 4 of them - which will probably be revisions/variations of previous ones. Looks like I'm going to be pretty busy. My last final is the 14th and I leave [whoopee!] for Salt Lake City for 2 weeks on the 16th. I can hardly wait.
I'm afraid that this is what instructions too often look like:
Whew - glad I don't look at porn! Also, that I have an interpreter in NN to figure out - or ignore- such instructions.
Monday, despite well-meaning advice, etc from some friends and medical practitioners, I had carpal tunnel release surgery on both of my wrists. So far, so good and I should be able to go back to teaching Monday.
Two of my colleagues R and M, bless their hearts, took my Calculus II classes on last Monday, I canceled my Tuesday and Wednesday classes and Thanksgiving holiday and weekend account for the rest of my week. I've had physical therapy twice and everything seems fine - even drove today and have been fighting my demonic laptop trying to create solutions to a practice test I put on my web page for the Calculus students who have a test next Wednesday.
Also I did the dreaded H word Sunday [housew&%k!!!] and have a mostly clean house. Smells and feels good.
I hope you all have or had a Happy Thanksgiving. Friend, M, is cooking turkey breast, sides and found a sugar free pumpkin pie [ which of course is not carb free, but will do pretty well for me - especially with the small amount of Reddi Whip I'll put on it] and friend R and I are bringing some stuff, so it should be fun.
The weather is helping - in the 80's in the day and 60's or 70's at night - I'm reeeely looking forward to my 2 weeks in Salt Lake City. My cousin R from Seattle who was coming for a visit in January had his plans canceled, but I'm hoping he'll make it anyhow - maybe a bit later.
